Our training provides an overview of the journey from grapevine to glass, focusing on industry-specific language that will enable you to teach and discuss wine more confidently in English. The course assumes a solid foundation in wine knowledge in your native language, along with an intermediate level of English proficiency.

Day 1: From wine to glass

  • overview of the course material: from the vineyard and the winery to tasting and describing wine
  • the interaction between the vine and climate
  • the vine in space and time
  • the interaction between vine and soil
  • grape varieties: their characteristics and management
  • vines and the human element
  • approaches to vineyard management

Day 2: Practical wine English,

  • examples: two winemakers and their vineyards
  • understanding and giving a vineyard tour
  • the role of Oxygen in winemaking
  • from grapes to must
  • white winemaking: from harvesting to fermentation, maturation and bottling

Day 3: Describing the winemaking processes and the connections between the decisions in the winery to the taste and style of the resulting wine.

  • red winemaking process
  • cap management techniques
  • causes and effects of winemaking choices
  • barrel making, oak influence

Day 4: Teaching others to taste and describe wine

  • the basics of wine tasting: the 7 S’s, describing the wine’s appearance, what is on the nose and on the palate
  • standard and alternative approaches to describing wine

Day 5: Putting It All Together

  • different styles from the same variety
  • examples: two winemakers and their wines
  • wrap-up with a Q&A and feedback session

The course fee is 80 Euros per day.
The accommodation and the meals are not included in the course fee.
Participants receive an attendance certificate.
The registration is not final until confirmed.
The course runs with a minimum of 8, and a maximum of 15 participants.
